Voices of Commonsense: Community Civic Education, Women & Youth Empowerment Radio Initiative

 Voices of Commonsense is a 12‑month civic education and empowerment radio initiative designed to strengthen democratic participation, reduce misinformation, and amplifies community voices in Owo, Ondo State. Nigeria.  Through weekly radio programs, youth journalism training, town‑hall broadcasts, and partnerships with civil society, the project will reach an estimated 550,000 listeners across Ondo State and in Nigeria 

The program aligns with CCN Radio Station priorities promoting good governance, media literacy, youth and women engagement, and community resilience.Our programs include women-centered safety broadcasts, child-protection awareness campaigns, community reporting platforms, and partnerships that amplify the voices of vulnerable groups to strengthen civic participation, media literacy, and youth engagement in Owo through community‑focused radio programming.

1. Increase civic knowledge among 200,000+ listeners through weekly educational broadcasts.

2. Train 120 young people in journalism, fact‑checking, and radio production.

3. Establish 52 weekly town‑hall radio dialogues with community leaders, women’s groups, and youth.

4. Reduce misinformation by producing 48 fact‑checking radio segments.

5. Promote women’s participation by featuring 40 women leaders and experts on-air.

6. Our radio station will reach an estimated 550,000 listeners across Owo and surrounding communities covering about 30 kilometers radius with our antenna capacity on our 80 feet Mast tower , we are projecting to reach through social media platform millions of Nigerians across the country. 

Project Activities

1. Weekly Civic Education Radio Program

  • 52 episodes
  • Topics: governance, elections, rights, responsibilities, public health, security, entrepreneurship
  • Includes expert interviews and call‑in segments

2. Youth Journalism & Media Literacy Training

  • 4 training cohorts (30 youths each)
  • Skills: reporting, interviewing, audio editing, fact‑checking ethics
  • Includes mentorship by U.S. media professionals  virtual sessions)

3. Women’s Voices Amplification Series

  • 40 women leaders featured
  • Focus on entrepreneurship, leadership, education, and      community development

4. Weekly Town‑Hall Radio Dialogues

  • Live broadcasts with community stakeholders
  • Themes: governance, security, youth health, community etc.  


COMMONSENSE FM station has:
